About Burmese Phenakite

Burmese phenakite is a highly sought-after, extremely rare beryllium silicate mineral (Be2SiO4) mined primarily in the Shan State of Myanmar (Burma). Prized by both mineral collectors and spiritual practitioners, it is renowned for its extreme hardness (7.5–8), glass-like clarity, and distinct "drill-bit" twinned crystal habits.

Key Details & Characteristics

Origin: Primarily sourced from the Pein Pyit (Palelni) and Khetchel village mines in the Momeik Township of Myanmar.

Crystal Habit: Frequently forms sharp, glassy, colorless "drill-bit" twinned crystals that are incredibly lustrous.

Energy & Metaphysical Properties: It holds one of the highest crystal vibrations known. In crystal healing, it is used to stimulate the crown and third-eye chakras, clear energetic blockages, aid deep meditation, and enhance spiritual growth.

Safety Precautions: Like all beryls and phenakites, the raw stone contains beryllium. Handle it with care to avoid inhaling any dust, though holding polished or raw specimens is generally considered safe if hands are washed after contact. Phenakite also scratches glass.

Some identification methods include:

  • Electronic Diamond tester
  • Drill bit formation unique to Myanmar
  • V-shaped etchings
  • Scratching of glass
  • Smoother feel as it can often come with Danburite, Quartz and Beryls.
  • Light fracture identification method
  • Under UV Phenakite can have an Orange hue and on rare occasions a vibrant green
